Valve to Reduce Pace of Deadlock Content Releases

by Connor Jan 26,2025

Deadlock Update Schedule Shifting in 2025

Valve has announced a change to its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, transitioning to larger, less frequent patches. This follows a year of consistent updates in 2024. The shift aims to streamline the development process and allow for more substantial content drops.

The recent winter update, featuring unique gameplay alterations, provides a glimpse into the future, suggesting a potential shift towards more limited-time events. While the consistent update cadence will be reduced, Valve assures players that future updates will be more significant and impactful.

Deadlock, a free-to-play MOBA-style hero shooter, launched on Steam earlier in 2024 after early gameplay leaks. It has quickly gained traction, despite competition from titles like Marvel Rivals. Its distinctive steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay have contributed to its success. The game currently boasts 22 playable characters, plus 8 additional heroes in its Hero Labs mode. Its innovative anti-cheat measures also set it apart.

According to a statement by Valve developer Yoshi on the official Deadlock Discord, the bi-weekly update cycle proved challenging for internal iteration and external adjustment. The new approach will focus on larger, event-like patches, with hotfixes deployed as needed. No official release date has been announced, but further updates are anticipated in 2025.
