According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the highly popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year, coinciding with the release of a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel the DLC was made this week, primarily due to concerns that the content volume did not justify the proposed price tag. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This cancellation comes at a time when Warner Bros. is undergoing significant restructuring within its gaming division, driven by ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made the tough decision to cancel its planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions. This move was accompanied by the closure of WB San Diego and the studio responsible for MultiVersus, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. implemented layoffs at Rocksteady as recently as last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of Hogwarts Legacy and the broader Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is among its top priorities, aligning with their strategy to focus on fewer, yet larger, franchises. The original game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide.
