Deadlock Announces Major Update After Months

Four-lane Map Transforms into Three Lanes

Deadlock Changes from Four Lanes to Three in New Major Update

Deadlock's latest major update streamlines its map from four lanes to three, reshaping the game's core structure and enhancing various features. On February 26, 2025, Valve detailed this full map rework and other mechanic adjustments on Steam.

The redesign involves converting the four lanes into three, accompanied by "a wide array of map-wide changes, including visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, and more." Deadlock, already distinctive in the MOBA genre with its third-person perspective, had initially added a fourth lane to the typical three-lane setup, which may have introduced unnecessary complexity.

Furthermore, the update simplifies farming by removing the need to last-hit enemy troopers to summon Soul Orbs, making early laning phases more accessible. The patch notes also highlight enhancements in the game’s netcode and client performance, promising smoother gameplay.

A Crucial Update for Deadlock

This update could be the revitalization Deadlock needs to re-engage its community. In September 2024, the game experienced a surge in player count, hitting an all-time high of 171,490 players. However, by the following month, the player base had dwindled by 90%, with only around 17,000 players active.

Valve Developer Yoshi addressed this in January 2025 on Deadlock’s Discord server, noting the challenges of the previous two-week update cycle. He stated, "Moving forward, major patches will not adhere to a fixed schedule. These updates will be more substantial, though slightly more spaced out, and we will continue to release hotfixes as needed. We are eager to further develop the game in the coming year."

Deadlock is currently in active development and playtesting, accessible only through friend invites. No official release date has been announced yet. For more updates and information, visit our Deadlock page.
