Android Telefónica Devices to Integrate Epic Games Store

by Camila Dec 15,2024

Epic Games and Telefónica forge a significant mobile gaming partnership. The agreement will see the Epic Games Store (EGS) pre-installed on Android devices sold by Telefónica, impacting millions of users.

This strategic move places the EGS alongside Google Play as a default app store option for O2 (UK), Movistar, and Vivo customers across numerous countries. This broad reach represents a substantial advancement for Epic's mobile gaming strategy.

Convenience as a Key Factor: A major hurdle for alternative app stores is user convenience. Many casual users are unaware of, or unconcerned with, options beyond pre-installed stores. This partnership directly addresses this by making the EGS readily available to Telefónica customers in key markets including Spain, the UK, Germany, and Latin America.

This collaboration marks only the beginning of a long-term partnership between Epic Games and Telefónica, building on their previous work in 2021. For Epic, currently navigating legal challenges with Apple and Google, this deal provides a significant alternative path to market and potentially a major shift in the mobile gaming landscape, benefiting both Epic and consumers.
