Cyberpunk 2077's development history includes an ambitious, now-shelved DLC set on the Moon. Data miner SirMZK unearthed compelling evidence from the game's code, revealing CD Projekt RED's original vision for this cosmic expansion.
Game files contain references to lunar surface maps, distinct zones like an "Exterior Movie Set" and "Drug Lab," and even a rover model. The Moon location was planned to be enormous, potentially a quarter the size of Night City, offering a fully explorable open-world environment. This would have dramatically expanded gameplay, transporting players far beyond the familiar neon-drenched streets.
A key element was the "Crystal Palace," an elite space station. While cut from the final release, players can briefly see the Crystal Palace in one ending sequence, glimpsed through a spaceship window. Further files reveal a prototype zero-gravity bar, linked to a removed quest (codenamed "201") connected to the Arasaka storyline.
Hope remains that some of these concepts might reappear in CD Projekt RED's upcoming "Orion" project, an expansion of the Cyberpunk universe. However, the studio hasn't officially confirmed the reuse of these assets.
Despite its cancellation, the unearthed details offer a captivating glimpse into what could have been: a daring expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 into the unexplored reaches of space, seamlessly blending space exploration with the game's iconic cyberpunk style.
