Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, is crafting The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world vampire RPG aiming for a Witcher 3-level of quality, albeit in a more concise package. This article delves into the upcoming title and the director's vision.
A Focused, High-Quality Experience
In an interview with Games Radar, Creative Director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz clarified the studio's ambitions. Despite being a smaller team launching their first game, they aspire to AAA standards, citing The Witcher 3 as their benchmark for quality.
Addressing the often-blurred lines between AA and AAA titles, Tomaszkiewicz emphasized their commitment to AAA quality. While acknowledging a smaller scope than a typical AAA title, he highlighted the team's extensive experience, stemming from their work on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 at CD Projekt Red. The formation of Rebel Wolves, he explained, was driven by a desire for greater creative freedom.
Tomaszkiewicz anticipates a 30-40 hour main campaign, shorter than many AAA titles, but he argues that playtime isn't the sole measure of quality. He points out that some AAA games, like Call of Duty, have significantly shorter campaigns. The focus, he reiterates, is on delivering a robust and high-quality experience.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG set in Vale Sangora. Players assume the role of Coen, a peasant imbued with vampiric powers, embarking on a quest to save his sister while navigating the dangers of this mystical land.
Currently, there's no official release date, but the game is slated for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a gameplay reveal expected in Summer 2025.
