DC Comics Launches New Batman #1 in Updated Suit

by Aria Oct 11,2025

2025 promises to be a landmark year for DC's flagship Batman series. Current writer Chip Zdarsky recently concluded his run with Batman #157, making way for Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's highly anticipated Hush 2 storyline this March. Following this arc's conclusion, DC will reboot the series with a fresh #1 issue featuring a new creative team and redesigned costume.

During the ComicsPro retailer event, DC announced that acclaimed writer Matt Fraction (Uncanny X-Men, The Invincible Iron Man) will helm the new Batman series. Current artist Jorge Jimenez remains onboard, having collaborated with Fraction on designing both a redesigned Batsuit and Batmobile. The iconic black and gray suit makes way for a retro-inspired blue and gray ensemble (shown below).

"Batman was my first comic," Fraction revealed. "Jorge and I are bringing a classic superhero approach to Gotham - complete with new vehicles, new costumes, fresh faces, and familiar rogues. We're celebrating everything that makes Batman legendary."

Superhero Summer Continues

DC also revealed significant updates for the Superman family of titles during their ComicsPro presentation. Supergirl receives her own ongoing series featuring a new costume designed by renowned artist Stanley "Artgerm" Lau. Sophie Campbell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will write and illustrate the series, returning Kara Zor-El to Midvale.

"This project feels like coming home," Campbell said. "I'm drawing inspiration from Kara's wild '70s adventures, the 1984 film, and The CW series I loved. Expect surprises as we develop this new take."

Smallville Revisited

Action Comics shifts focus with a new creative team: writer Mark Waid (Justice League Unlimited) and artist Skylar Patridge (Resonant). Their run explores Clark Kent's teenage years in modernized Smallville, chronicling his early days as Superboy.

"We're examining what it means to discover superpowers as a 15-year-old," Waid explained. "Skylar's giving Smallville a contemporary farm town aesthetic while preserving its essential character."

Action Comics #1087 debuts this June.

A Very Good Boy Indeed

DC's All In initiative introduces Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton, a five-issue miniseries from writer Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and artist Mike Norton (Revival). The series delivers Krypto's most detailed origin story yet.

"We've never properly explored Krypto's journey from abandoned pup to Earth's mightiest canine," North noted. "Mike's art perfectly conveys the story without speech balloons - we're treating Krypto like the authentic dog he is."

Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #1 releases June 18.
