Mobile Legends: Bang Bang returns to the Esports World Cup 2025!
Following the apparent success of the Esports World Cup 2024, several game publishers have announced their return for the 2025 event. Garena's Free Fire was an early confirmation, and now Moonton's Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) has joined the roster.
The 2024 World Cup featured two MLBB competitions: the MLBB Mid-Season Cup (MSC) and the MLBB Women's Invitational. These tournaments brought together teams from around the globe to compete in Riyadh. Selangor Red Giants triumphed in the MSC, while Smart Omega Empress defeated Team Vitality (ending their 25-game winning streak) to claim victory in the Women's Invitational.
A Significant, Yet Secondary, Event?
Most games from the 2024 Esports World Cup appear to be returning. However, a notable observation is the relatively minor scale of many of these competitions. The inclusion of the MLBB Mid-Season Cup, for instance, suggests the Esports World Cup might be viewed as a supplementary event rather than the primary championship. This is a double-edged sword: it avoids overshadowing established leagues, but it also risks being perceived as secondary to the main MLBB events.
Regardless of its perceived standing, fans will undoubtedly appreciate the return of so many popular titles to this prestigious tournament.
