Nintendo's Switch Online + Expansion Pack is revving up its engine with the addition of two classic GBA racing games from the acclaimed F-Zero series!
F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend Arrive on Switch Online
Available October 11, 2024
Get ready to experience the thrill of high-speed futuristic racing! F-Zero: GP Legend and the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax are joining the Switch Online + Expansion Pack lineup on October 11th. This announcement comes directly from Nintendo.
The F-Zero series, a cornerstone of Nintendo's legacy, first launched in Japan over 30 years ago (1990). Critically acclaimed for its innovative gameplay and pushing the boundaries of console technology, F-Zero is considered a landmark racing franchise, influencing titles like SEGA's Daytona USA. Known for its breakneck speed and intense competition, F-Zero set a new standard for racing games on SNES and beyond.
Like its popular cousin, Mario Kart, F-Zero challenges players to navigate treacherous tracks, overcome obstacles, and outmaneuver opponents in thrilling, machine-to-machine combat. The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, even made his mark as a beloved fighter in Super Smash Bros.
F-Zero: GP Legend initially debuted in Japan in 2003, followed by a worldwide release in 2004. F-Zero Climax, released in Japan in 2004, remained a regional exclusive until now, marking a 19-year wait for global players. This release also ends a long period of dormancy for the F-Zero series, which lasted until the release of the Switch's F-Zero 99 last year. In a past interview, F-Zero game designer Takaya Imamura cited Mario Kart's immense popularity as a contributing factor to the series' extended hiatus.
This October 2024 update to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack brings both F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend to subscribers. Prepare for intense competition across various race modes, including Grand Prix, story modes, and time trials.
