Lies of P Director Says Overture DLC Isn’t Connected to Base Game’s Massive Final Cutscene Reveal

by Aria Apr 25,2025

The anticipation surrounding the upcoming DLC for *Lies of P*, titled *Overture*, has sparked intense speculation among fans about the mysteries it might unveil. During the recent Game Developers Conference, IGN uncovered that one mystery fans hoped to see resolved—the intriguing twist in the base game's final cutscene—will not be explained in *Overture*. For those yet to complete *Lies of P*, the ending features a cutscene hinting at the future direction of the game's universe, sparking curiosity about its implications. However, director Jiwon Choi clarified that this particular cutscene is not connected to the DLC. He cryptically added, "Please stay tuned for additional announcements in the future."

Neowiz has already announced a sequel to *Lies of P*, suggesting that the enigmatic cutscene might be linked to *Lies of P 2*. Details about the sequel remain scarce, and Choi was tight-lipped about any hints during our conversation. He emphasized Neowiz's commitment to quality, stating, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."

The specific scene in question, which we discussed with Choi, is the "Dorothy scene." As we detailed here, the final cutscene shows Paracelcus on a phone call, mentioning, "I will find her, for sure. Another key of ours: Dorothy." The scene then reveals the iconic striped sock legs and ruby slippers of Dorothy from *The Wizard of Oz*, hinting at a connection to other public domain fairy tales. Yet, how and why this connection exists remains a mystery, one that *Overture* will not resolve.

While *Overture* won't explain the final cutscene, Choi provided some insights into what players can expect from the DLC. He suggested that fans replay the base game to uncover hints scattered throughout that foreshadow the DLC's content: "When you play through the base game again, you'll see many hints that we scattered throughout the whole experience," Choi stated. "A lot of hints and a lot of windows into the world, and you'll be able to actually see that and experience that in expansion…There are many things that I actually wanted to accomplish when we were working on the base game. It didn't get put into the base game, and all of that, at least key elements of that are going to be included in expansion."

Choi also noted that some fans are on the right track with their theories, as he regularly follows fan discussions online and finds that "some of them are quite close."

Additionally, Choi shared that *Overture* is expected to take experienced players between 15-20 hours to complete. It will be accessible once players reach a "certain" chapter of the game and remain available until the end. As previously announced, *Overture* is a prequel, with the main character being transported back in time to Krat just before its fall. The DLC will introduce new locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons, though Choi kept the specifics under wraps for the release.
