While NieR: Automata primarily focuses on the intense conflict between Androids and Machines, the game offers a variety of peaceful activities to explore. One such activity is fishing, which you can easily overlook during your playthrough but is definitely worth trying out.

Fishing in NieR: Automata won't boost your level, but it's an excellent way to acquire rare items and earn money quickly without the need to engage in combat. Here's a detailed guide on how to fish in NieR: Automata and what you can do with your catches.

How To Fish In NieR: Automata

Fishing in NieR: Automata is accessible in almost any body of water, even shallow areas like the water near the Resistance Camp. To start fishing, simply stand still in the water until the fishing prompt appears above your character's head. Hold down the designated button to have your character sit and cast their pod:

  • O on PlayStation
  • B on Xbox
  • Enter on PC

After casting your pod, wait patiently for a fish to nibble. You'll notice the pod bobbing up and down, but hold off on reeling it in until the pod is fully submerged and you hear a distinct plopping sound. You have just a second to press the reel-in button, so be quick! If you miss the timing, the fish will escape, but you can recast your pod as many times as you want without any limitations. Keep fishing to your heart's content to collect as many fish or junk items as you desire.

For added convenience, you can equip a plug-in chip that displays a fishing icon in the top right corner of your screen whenever you're standing in fishable water.

Rewards For Fishing In NieR: Automata

Whether you're casting your line in a serene pond or the murky sewers, the fish and junk items you catch can be sold for a good sum of money. This method is not only safe but also one of the quickest ways to earn money early in the game, especially if you're looking to increase your plug-in chip capacity. If you're fishing in the sewers, you might even snag an Iron Pipe, which can be one of the game's better weapons if luck is on your side.
