Pokémon Gold and Silver, developed by Game Freak and released in 1999 for the Game Boy Color, revolutionized the Pokémon franchise. Praised for its innovative features, the games introduced a real-time clock affecting Pokémon appearances and events, and added 100 new Pokémon (Gen 2) including Pichu, Cleffa, Hoothoot, Chikorita, Umbreon, Ho-Oh, and Lugia. A 10th-anniversary remake, Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, was released for the Nintendo DS in 2009.
