Sydney Sweeney Joins Cast for It Takes Two Film Adaptation
A cinematic adaptation of Hazelight Studios' award-winning game It Takes Two entered development last month, with video game adaptation specialists Story Kitchen (known for Sonic the Hedgehog films) assembling key creative talent.
Variety reports the project is gaining momentum with Madame Web star Sydney Sweeney officially attached. Director Jon M. Chu (Wicked) is set to helm the production, while Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will pen the screenplay. Story Kitchen is currently shopping the high-profile package to studios, anticipating strong industry interest.
The Casting Dilemma
The burning question remains which sibling role Sweeney will portray - May or Cody. Studio sources indicate this casting decision remains undecided at this stage.

Originally launched in March 2024, It Takes Two quickly became another commercial triumph for Hazelight and creator Josef Fares, selling 2 million copies in its first week. The title is also slated as a potential launch game for Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 console.
IGN's 9/10 review praised the game as: "A masterfully designed cooperative experience that seamlessly blends multiple genres, It Takes Two delivers an endlessly inventive gameplay journey that proves incredibly difficult to put down."
More Hazelight Adaptations Coming
This isn't Hazelight's only property in development - their previous hit A Way Out (with 23 million copies sold) is also being adapted, potentially starring Dwayne Johnson.
While these adaptations remain in early stages, Hollywood's current enthusiasm for successful video game adaptations suggests strong potential for these projects to reach production.
Story Kitchen's growing portfolio includes film adaptations of Square Enix's Just Cause (with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto attached), Dredge, Kingmakers and Sleeping Dogs. The company is also developing a live-action Toys "R" Us film.
Meanwhile, Hazelight has already begun teasing development of their next original game project.
