Some video games get your heart racing and blood pressure rising – that's what makes them exciting. Others offer a calming experience, a journey to meditative tranquility. Both types have their appeal.
Frike, the debut Android game from indie developer chakahacka, uniquely blends both of these experiences.
The objective in Frike is simple: survival. You control a floating triangle, split evenly into purple, orange, and green sections. Two buttons on the screen's left control ascent and descent; a right-side button rotates your triangular protagonist.
Frike boasts just one level, but that doesn't diminish its scope. This single level is infinite; you'll never reach the end.
Scattered throughout Frike's atmospheric, abstract landscape are colored blocks: white, purple, orange, and green. Scoring involves rotating your triangle to align its corners with matching-colored squares.
Colliding with too many mismatched or white squares results in a fiery demise. However, some squares offer bonus effects, slowing your descent to provide extra time for precise maneuvering.
Frike exemplifies the minimalist arcade casual game. While high-score chasing can be intense, it also provides a relaxing experience, allowing players to navigate obstacles and appreciate the game's visuals at their own pace.
Beyond its understated graphics, Frike features a soothing soundtrack of resonant chimes and metallic tones.
If this sounds appealing, Frike is available now as a free download on the Google Play Store.
