Hideki Kamiya Expresses Interest in a Devil May Cry Remake
A Modern Approach to Devil May Cry Remake
Remaking classic games has become popular among legendary developers, with titles like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 leading the trend. The original Devil May Cry could join this list, as its director Hideki Kamiya has shown interest in creating a remake.
In a YouTube video from May 8, Kamiya responded to fan questions about remakes and sequels. When asked about his ideas for a DMC remake, he confirmed, "A remake like that, well, I would definitely be interested."
Origins Dating Back to 2001

Devil May Cry first launched in 2001 and was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. The project evolved so significantly that Capcom decided to release it as a new franchise instead.
Nearly 25 years later, Kamiya revealed the personal inspiration behind the game. He recalled being heartbroken after a painful breakup in 2000, and channeling that emotional turmoil into the creation of Devil May Cry.

Kamiya admitted he never replays his own games after launch, including Devil May Cry. Still, when he sees gameplay footage, he recognizes its dated design. For a potential remake, he would rebuild everything using current technology and modern game design principles.
At the moment, he isn't actively developing ideas but promised to deliver if the project moves forward. He humorously requested that Capcom entrust him with the task, stating, "When the time comes—I’ll come up with something. That's my job." Kamiya also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe, giving fans hope for revivals of both beloved titles.
