Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This innovative game, initially announced in 2018, is finally gaining momentum, with continuous development underway at Gallium Studio.
The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, focused on the game's unique approach to interactive memory. Proxi allows players to input personal memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for a more accurate representation of the recalled experience.
Each memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons. As the mind world expands, so does the presence of Proxies—digital representations of friends and family—linked to specific memories. These Proxies can even be exported to other game platforms, such as Minecraft and Roblox.
Wright emphasized Proxi's goal: to create "magical connections with memories and bring them to life." This personal focus, he explained, stems from his belief that "no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He jokingly added, "The more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
