Dead by Daylight is gearing up to celebrate its ninth anniversary with a thrilling collaboration that fans have eagerly anticipated for years: Five Nights at Freddy’s. This exciting Chapter, set to launch on June 17, brings Scott Cawthon’s iconic animatronic horror series into the world of Dead by Daylight, promising a blend of new gameplay elements and beloved characters. The team at Behaviour Interactive has been working tirelessly to ensure this crossover not only meets but exceeds the expectations of both Dead by Daylight and Five Nights at Freddy’s enthusiasts.

In a recent interview with IGN, Dead by Daylight’s Creative Director Dave Richard and Killer Designer Jason Guzzo shared insights into the development of this much-awaited Chapter. The public test build (PTB) for the Chapter is set to launch today at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET, giving players a sneak peek at how the new Killer, Springtrap, will integrate into the game. Springtrap, a fan-favorite from Five Nights at Freddy’s, utilizes doors, cameras, and jump scares to create a unique gameplay experience that stays true to the series' original horror elements.

Richard expressed excitement and confidence about the Chapter, acknowledging the high expectations due to the popularity of Five Nights at Freddy’s. Guzzo, who has designed three Killers for Dead by Daylight, including Chucky and Dracula, shared his enthusiasm for being entrusted with such a beloved franchise. The design process involved extensive research, including watching around 70 hours of Five Nights at Freddy’s gameplay, particularly from popular streamer Markiplier, to capture the essence of the series.

Players can expect Springtrap to be a projectile-based Killer with a unique power that enhances the Survivor experience. The new map, Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, is meticulously designed to reflect the lore and atmosphere of Five Nights at Freddy’s, filled with surprises and nods to the franchise's rich history.

While some fans expressed disappointment over the absence of a new Survivor in this Chapter, Richard explained that the focus was on capturing the essence of the original Five Nights at Freddy’s games. However, he hinted at the possibility of future content that might include a Survivor, given the expansive nature of the Five Nights at Freddy’s universe.

As the Dead by Daylight community eagerly awaits the launch of this Chapter, the team at Behaviour Interactive remains committed to delivering an authentic and engaging experience. The collaboration with Scott Cawthon and the inclusion of elements from the Five Nights at Freddy’s movies, such as the Yellow Rabbit outfit voiced by Matthew Lillard, underscore the dedication to fan satisfaction.

With the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, Behaviour Interactive has also confirmed that the startup issues plaguing Dead by Daylight on the current Switch model will be resolved, ensuring a smoother experience for players on the new console.

As Dead by Daylight continues to evolve with new crossovers and quality-of-life improvements, the Five Nights at Freddy’s Chapter marks a significant milestone in the game's journey, promising to deliver unforgettable moments of horror and excitement for players worldwide.
