On PlayStation Blog, Enhance Director Takashi Ishihara explained Lumines Arise represents a complete reimagining of the classic puzzle franchise that debuted on PlayStation Portable two decades ago, now with optional PS VR2 support.

"Lumines Arise on PS5 isn't just another puzzle game – we're creating a full sensory experience," Ishihara stated. "The adventure begins in darkness before transporting players through 30+ emotionally charged stages. From vibrant jungles and underwater worlds to Tokyo's neon streets and cosmic voids, each environment triggers synesthetic responses through visual and auditory harmony."

The core gameplay retains Lumines' signature mechanics: players rotate and position 2×2 multicolored blocks to form single-color squares. A rhythmic Timeline sweeps across the screen, eliminating completed squares to the beat while maintaining constant forward momentum.

"As combos build, you'll feel DualSense vibrations synchronizing with the pulsating soundtrack," Ishihara continued. "The visuals and audio gradually pull you into a flow state where time seems to disappear. Your pulse quickens while your movements become instinctive."

For those who missed the presentation, here's the complete list of announcements from Sony's State of Play June 2025 showcase.
