CD Projekt Red recently confirmed the introduction of new regions and monsters in The Witcher 4, during an interview with Gamertag Radio.
The Witcher 4 Expands with New Locations and Creatures
Stromford and Bauk: A Glimpse into the New World
Following the Game Awards 2024, Gamertag Radio’s Parris spoke with The Witcher 4's director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Gosia Mitręga (December 14, 2024). The interview revealed exciting details about the game's expansion.
Ciri's journey will lead players to uncharted territories on The Continent. Kalemba identified the village shown in the trailer as "Stromford," a place where a chilling ritual of child sacrifice is practiced to appease their deity.
This deity, revealed as the monster "Bauk," is inspired by Serbian mythology. Kalemba described Bauk as a "tricky bastard" whose presence instills terror. Beyond Bauk, players can expect a diverse array of new monsters.
While enthusiastic about the new additions, Kalemba remained tight-lipped about specific details, promising a fresh and exciting experience within the familiar setting of The Continent.
A subsequent interview with Skill UP (December 15, 2024) confirmed that Witcher 4's map size will be comparable to The Witcher 3. Stromford's location in the far north suggests Ciri's adventures will extend beyond Geralt's explored territories.
Enhanced NPCs: A More Immersive Experience
The Gamertag Radio interview also highlighted significant advancements in NPC development. Parris noted the reuse of NPC models in The Witcher 3, contrasting it with the diversity showcased in The Witcher 4's trailer. Kalemba confirmed that each NPC will have a unique backstory and life, impacting their interactions with Ciri and other characters. The close-knit nature of a village like Stromford will influence these interactions.
CD Projekt Red is enhancing NPC visuals, behavior, and facial expressions to create a more immersive experience.
While details are still scarce, the improvements to NPC interaction promise a more engaging and realistic world. For further information on The Witcher 4, check out our dedicated article!
