Firaxis' Civilization VII receives Patch 1.0.1, addressing various player concerns. The patch, released for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, follows a mixed Steam user review rating during the game's advanced access period. This is the first of several planned patches to address feedback.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged negative reviews but expressed confidence in the game's long-term appeal to the established Civilization fanbase.
Key improvements in Patch 1.0.1 include:
Gameplay:
- Corrected Age lengths in Epic and Marathon speed games.
- City-States now transition to Friendly Independent Powers instead of disappearing at Age transitions, starting with more units in Exploration and Modern Ages.
- Improved naval combat consistency, addressing issues with combat strength, reciprocal damage, and unit movement after combat.
- Prevented Legacy Path completion from adding Modern Age progress.
- Towns now automatically revert to growing when their chosen focus is no longer applicable.
- The "Future Civic" is now repeatable across all Ages, with increased costs for repeated use.
- Fixed an issue where excessive growth bonuses resulted in negative food requirements.
- Enhanced rail network reliability for settlements connected via water by building Ports.
- Improved Loyalty Crisis management in the Antiquity Age, including the ability to purchase Villas.
AI:
- Reduced AI offers of high-value cities during peace deals.
- Decreased AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
- Increased AI consideration of Ideology before war or peace offers.
- Adjusted AI war and peace desires based on ideological alignment.
Camera:
- Resolved a camera focusing issue on native resolutions.
UI:
- Temporarily replaced the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font.
- Fixed issues with the Settlement menu, yield icons, text cut-off on the Global Yields Breakdown screen, and missing portraits for Leaders.
- Added notifications for completed Espionage actions.
- Corrected issues with city project purchaseability, religion display, and lingering health bars.
- Improved leader name and portrait alignment and Civ description spacing.
- Fixed a background color issue in the Player Customize tab.
Cross-play multiplayer between PC and console players is temporarily disabled to expedite PC updates. This does not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer. Further patches are expected.
