FBC: Firebreak, the standalone multiplayer shooter and spin-off of Remedy Entertainment’s acclaimed Control, has now reached over one million players. While the game is available at no additional cost to Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus subscribers, the studio described this milestone as "significant," while also noting that there's still much work to be done.
"As of last night, we’ve surpassed 1 million players in FBC: Firebreak. This is a major milestone for us, so thank you all for playing—it truly means a lot to everyone here at Remedy," the team shared in a post on social media.
"We’re aware there’s still a lot of work ahead, and we’re more motivated than ever to tackle it head-on. We have some exciting updates and additions planned for Firebreak players—stay tuned for more details soon."
Last week, the development team highlighted an issue with what they referred to as "the first-hour experience." They admitted that the initial gameplay segment wasn’t hitting the mark due to several factors—including confusing onboarding, unclear systems and tools, and ambiguity around how to approach and complete Jobs effectively.
Additionally, the team acknowledged that the core power fantasy felt underwhelming early on, with starting weapons feeling underpowered and higher-tier weapons requiring too much grinding to unlock.
"Right now, despite moments where the story feels sparse, there’s still plenty of enjoyment to be found in wrangling unpredictable creatures within Remedy’s uniquely bureaucratic and surreal world," noted IGN in its ongoing review of FBC: Firebreak. "I’ll continue diving into the game this week and finalize the full review once I’ve fully tested the boundaries of Remedy’s chaotic co-op job simulator."
Remedy has also outlined its plans for continued support following launch. The studio confirmed that two new Jobs (missions) will arrive in 2025, with further content updates scheduled for 2026. All post-launch playable content, including new Jobs, will be completely free for all players.
While optional cosmetic items will be available for purchase, Remedy emphasized that none will impact gameplay balance. Additionally, there will be no limited-time shop rotations or mandatory daily login rewards—ensuring a fair and accessible experience for everyone.
For Remedy, this is just one piece of a broader slate of active projects. Alongside FBC: Firebreak, the studio is currently developing Control 2 and a remastered compilation of Max Payne and Max Payne 2, keeping the momentum strong for fans of the studio’s signature narrative-driven action experiences.
