S-GAME Addresses the Uproar

Media Misinterpretations Fuel Xbox Controversy

Following reports from multiple media outlets covering ChinaJoy 2024, S-GAME released a statement on Twitter(X) addressing claims made by an anonymous source allegedly affiliated with Phantom Blade Zero. These reports, citing the anonymous source, suggested a lack of interest in the Xbox platform.

The studio's statement on Twitter(X) emphasizes their commitment to broad game accessibility: "These purported statements do not reflect S-GAME's values or corporate culture," the statement reads. "We are dedicated to making our game available to all players and haven't ruled out any platforms for Phantom Blade Zero. We're diligently working on development and publishing to ensure maximum player reach at launch and beyond."

Phantom Blade Zero Devs Respond to The initial controversy stemmed from a Chinese news outlet's report, translated by fans, stating a perceived lack of Xbox interest. This interpretation was amplified by outlets like Aroged, and further distorted by Gameplay Cassi's mistranslation.

While S-GAME didn't directly address the anonymous source's authenticity, the underlying sentiment holds some truth. Xbox's market share in Asia significantly trails PlayStation and Nintendo. Sales figures in Japan highlight this disparity, with Xbox Series X|S sales falling far short of PlayStation 5 sales.

Limited Xbox availability in many Asian countries further complicates the situation. In 2021, for example, Southeast Asia lacked widespread retail support, hindering accessibility.

Phantom Blade Zero Devs Respond to Speculation of an exclusive deal with Sony intensified the controversy, fueled by a June 8th interview acknowledging Sony's development and marketing support. However, S-GAME has denied any exclusive partnership. Their Summer 2024 Developer Update confirmed plans for PlayStation 5 and PC releases.

Although an Xbox release remains unconfirmed, S-GAME's response leaves the possibility open.
