Monster Hunter Wilds Elevates In-Game Dining Experience
Monster Hunter Wilds is set to revolutionize the culinary aspect of gaming, with a keen focus on creating mouth-wateringly realistic in-game food. According to executive director/art director Kaname Fujioka and director Yuya Tokuda, the upcoming title will feature an extensive range of dishes, from succulent meats to fresh fish and vibrant vegetables. The development team's dedication to making these dishes look appetizing goes beyond mere realism, incorporating exaggerated elements inspired by anime and food commercials to enhance visual appeal.
Since the inception of the Monster Hunter series in 2004, cooking has played a significant role, allowing players to enjoy meals crafted from the monsters they've defeated. This feature has evolved over time, with food becoming a central element in Monster Hunter World in 2018, where the developers aimed to create meals that players would genuinely crave. Monster Hunter Wilds, set to launch on February 28, 2025, will continue this trend by pushing the boundaries of in-game dining even further.
Exaggerated Realism in Cooking Scenes
In Monster Hunter Wilds, players will have the freedom to dine anywhere, shifting the cooking experience from a restaurant-like setting to a more rustic, camping grill atmosphere. A preview in December showcased an irresistible cheese pull, capturing the attention of fans. Even simple dishes, like roasted cabbage, have been given special attention. Fujioka highlighted the challenge of making this dish appealing, yet it was achieved through effects like the cabbage puffing up as the lid is lifted from the pan, enhanced by a roasted egg topping.
On the other end of the spectrum, Tokuda's passion for meat is reflected in the game with the introduction of a secret "extravagant" meat dish. While he kept the details under wraps, the excitement around this feature is palpable. The game aims to offer a diverse menu, capturing the joy of dining through the expressions of characters gathered around a cooking fire, thus amplifying the sense of food-related bliss in its cooking cutscenes.
