"Take-Two CEO Optimistic About 'Legacy' Civilization Fans Embracing Civilization 7 Despite 'Mixed' Steam Reviews"

The much-anticipated release of *Civilization 7* has stirred a mix of excitement and critique within its community. Despite receiving a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick remains optimistic. He believes that the dedicated fans of the series, known as the "legacy Civ audience," will grow to appreciate the game's innovations and depth as they spend more time with it.

Currently, *Civilization 7* is accessible to those who opted for advanced access, a group typically consisting of the franchise's most ardent followers. These early adopters have been vocal on Steam, pointing out issues such as an unintuitive user interface, a lack of diverse map options, and the absence of expected features. In response, Firaxis has committed to enhancing the UI, introducing team-based multiplayer modes, and expanding the variety of map types to address these concerns.

In a recent interview with IGN, Zelnick acknowledged the mixed reviews, including a notable 2/5 from Eurogamer. Despite this, he highlighted the game's solid Metacritic score of 81 and the presence of over 20 reviews scoring above 90. He emphasized that initial skepticism from the core audience is common with new *Civilization* releases, as the series often pushes boundaries with each iteration. Zelnick is confident that players will recognize the game's brilliance as they delve deeper into its mechanics.

One of the most significant changes in *Civilization 7* is its Age Transition system, which spans three distinct Ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. During these transitions, players choose a new civilization to represent their empire, select Legacies to carry forward, and witness the evolution of the game world. This innovative feature marks a departure from previous *Civilization* games, and Zelnick believes it will ultimately be embraced by fans.

In the immediate future, Firaxis faces the challenge of improving *Civilization 7*'s reception on Steam. The platform's user review rating plays a critical role in a game's visibility and overall success. As such, addressing the community's concerns promptly and effectively is paramount for the game's long-term acclaim and player engagement.
