Call of Duty Studio Loses Multiplayer Development Director

After a 15-year tenure at Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty multiplayer creative director Greg Reisdorf has announced his departure. His contributions spanned numerous Call of Duty titles, beginning with Modern Warfare 3 (2011).

Reisdorf's journey with Sledgehammer Games, established in 2009, saw him play a pivotal role in shaping the multiplayer experience across various installments. His involvement in the original Modern Warfare 3 included memorable sequences like the iconic Soap gurney scene in the "Blood Brothers" mission. He also significantly impacted the "boots on the ground" era with his work on Advanced Warfare, contributing to gameplay mechanics such as boost jumps and tactical reloads, while acknowledging his reservations about the "Pick 13" system.

His contributions extended to Call of Duty: WW2, where he helped rectify the initial limitations imposed by the class-based weapon system, and Call of Duty: Vanguard, showcasing his preference for classic three-lane map designs prioritizing engaging gameplay over strict military realism.

Most recently, Reisdorf served as the creative director for Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer, overseeing live season content including innovative modes like Snowfight and Infectious Holiday. His leadership encompassed the development of over 20 post-launch modes, and the reimagining of classic Modern Warfare 2 maps, adding subtle yet impactful details like Shepherd's skull in the Rust map.

Reisdorf's departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Call of Duty's history, yet his statement hints at continued involvement within the gaming industry.
