Capcom is optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for improved performance and reduced GPU requirements before launch. This follows feedback from the initial open beta test, which revealed performance issues on PC.
Addressing Performance Concerns:
Capcom's German Twitter (X) account announced performance improvements, particularly for the PS5's Prioritize Framerate mode. A video showcased smoother gameplay, highlighting the trade-off between frame rate and graphical detail. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, with a focus on lowering the recommended GPU requirements.
Currently, the minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Successful optimization could significantly broaden accessibility by enabling gameplay on lower-end hardware. A free benchmarking tool is also planned to help players assess system compatibility.
Open Beta Test Feedback:
The initial open beta test (October/November 2024) revealed issues including low-poly models and frame rate drops, even on high-end PCs. While some players found workarounds, these often compromised visual quality. Capcom acknowledged these problems, stating that fixes, including a resolution for afterimage noise, are implemented in the full game.
Second Open Beta Test:
A second open beta test is scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17, 2025, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, featuring Gypceros and a new monster. Whether the performance improvements will be included in this beta remains to be seen.
These optimizations suggest Monster Hunter Wilds will launch in a more polished state than the initial beta. The potential reduction in GPU requirements is particularly welcome news for players with less powerful systems.
